Match, explain, export.
- Exact matches, proposed for review. It pairs bank and book lines, and you confirm each pair.
- Every open item, evidenced. Outstanding items get a review note and their evidence before the rec is accepted.
- An assistant that explains the tie-out. Ask why something is still open; the math stays in code. It all works without AI, too.
- The finished reconciliation, exported for the file.
It proposes. You sign off.
You confirm every pair and every note, and you accept the reconciliation. Nothing is written back to your books.
What you need before you start.
- Python 3.12 or newer. Open
start.commandon a Mac;start.baton Windows hasn’t been verified yet. - Nothing else for the fictional example: no accounts, no keys.
- Your own OpenAI key if you add the assistant. Connecting it runs a small billable check.
- QuickBooks Online and Xero connect through developer apps you manage; CSV import works without them.
It runs on your computer and sends nothing to Vesper. A connected provider receives what you send it. Public source, with no software license yet.
Want this running on your real books every month?
In a Build, month one is bank recs and accruals running to your approval queue. On Project Falcon, everything the platform wrote to the books went through one approval queue, and within 60 days accounting was closing the books about 40% faster. One engagement, not a promise for another firm.

Questions
Is it really free?
Yes, and so is the audit. If you connect an AI model or QuickBooks, you use your own accounts, and provider charges may apply.
Who is it for?
Controllers and finance teams at PE-backed companies, and fractional CFOs who reconcile accounts for several clients.
Can I use it in client work?
There’s no software license on it yet, so ask us before you build it into client work.
