Vesper Book a Teardown

Questions we get

Straight answers. What you get, what you keep, and what it costs.

What firms ask before building with The Sprint or joining The Bootcamp. If yours is not here, email owen@byram-advisory.com. We will answer it, and add it here.

01Build it yourself

You still build it. You do not start from zero.

The Sprint gives your firm a plan and tested foundation. Your firm builds, tests and runs the workflows it needs.

In one lineThe Sprint is a self-guided finance and accounting platform firms build themselves.

What is The Sprint?

The Sprint is a self-guided finance and accounting platform firms build themselves. You get a guided planner, tested starter source code, control foundations and build guides. Your firm uses its own compatible AI coding workspace to build the workflows it needs.

You choose the first useful result and its limits. Your workspace helps with the technical work. Your firm owns the decisions, tests the finished workflow and approves it before live use.

The price is $2,000 once per firm, with a perpetual licence to the supplied source and no per-seat fee. Workspace subscriptions, hosting and AI usage are separate. This is a platform you build and run, rather than a hosted app you sign in to after payment.

Is the platform only for the close?

No. The wider platform can cover the accounting close, 13-week cash forecasts, three-statement and valuation models, and financial and bank covenant reporting. Project Falcon shows those workflows in use in one private equity portfolio. That is evidence from one engagement, not a promised result for another firm.

The Sprint supplies the plan, tested foundation and build guides. Its catalog distinguishes implemented, scaffolded and planned parts; your firm builds and validates the workflows and connections it chooses.

The Bootcamp teaches the method through one starter workflow on test data. The four-week Build covers one month-end close across the client books in scope. Additional forecasting, modeling and reporting work is agreed separately.

Why wouldn’t I just build this myself?

You do build it yourself. The value is where you start. The Sprint gives you a documented plan, tested controls and examples to adapt to your firm, so you can spend more of the build on the work you need.

The package includes four worked examples and five commit checks. For the supplied components, 2,140 tests passed and 1 was skipped. The controls cover risks such as one person preparing and approving the same entry, or an approval being reused after the figures change. Four handoff files record the outcome and limits you choose.

Those tests prove the parts that ship. Your firm still has to build and validate its selected workflows, integrations and deployment. Before a real write, you must prove that every write follows the approval controls and that there is no second path.

What does The Sprint add to my coding workspace?

Your coding workspace supplies the AI tools. The Sprint supplies the finance and accounting plan, tested source, control foundations, examples and build guides. You use them together.

Quick Start asks three business questions. The optional seven-stage Customize path lets you add detail. The handoff files and repository instructions guide a compatible workspace through your chosen build. The checker validates the handoff files; it does not grant permission or enforce the finished system’s security.

You need your own compatible workspace and access to the features the guide uses. Availability depends on the app, plan, settings and account access. Workspace subscriptions and AI usage are separate from the Sprint price.

Do I need tech skills? Do I need a developer?

You can make the plan without writing code. Open the planner in your browser and answer three questions: what work you want to do, which accounting product to prove first, and what the first useful result should be. The local planner needs no Vesper account or installation.

Building and running your platform takes technical work. You need a compatible coding workspace, a permanent project folder, a code repository and a working build environment. Hosting and provider accounts may be needed for the workflows you choose. The guides cover setup, but someone at your firm must own it.

Your workspace can handle routine design, code, tests, fixes and commits within the outcome you authorize. It must pause for missing facts, owner-only actions or a material change to the agreed limits. Connecting accounts, allowing data access and approving live use remain firm decisions. Deployment requires your approval.

You may want a developer for unfamiliar integrations or deployment. You also need someone qualified to judge the accounting, review the evidence and approve the result. The Sprint does not include hands-on build or validation services.

02What you get

A guided plan and tested foundation for your build.

What is in the box, what is not, what happens if you get stuck, and which one to buy.

On priceThe Sprint is $2,000. One payment, one firm. The Bootcamp is $5,000 and includes the Sprint. The $2,000 comes off the seat.

What is ready, and what do I still build?

Ready in the package: the planner, tested starter source code, control foundations, an approval path, five commit checks and four worked examples. For the supplied components, 2,140 tests passed and 1 was skipped. The build guides show how to extend them.

The code map separates implemented, scaffolded and planned parts. Scaffolded means the shape is there but the work inside is unfinished. Planned parts are a build map, not working features. Your firm selects what it needs; buying the package does not make the full catalogue ready to use.

Your firm and coding workspace build and test the selected workflows, screens and integrations. Live accounting connections, real model calls, chat, sign-in and stored runs need further work and evidence where your chosen workflow needs them.

The package does not authorize access to your books, client data or paid AI accounts. Your firm decides what may be connected, proves the controls in its own deployment, and approves each workflow before live use.

What if I get stuck?

The Sprint includes limited help on the product and the plan. It does not include hands-on build work.

If you get stuck, email info@byram-advisory.com. Send only the closed, sanitized diagnostic. It comes from Setup Cockpit or Sprint Workspace. Do not send raw screen text. Do not send a trace, a screenshot, or a reply from a provider. Do not send a password or key. Do not send an accounting company ID, client data, or a client file. We may point you to the next safe step. That is a courtesy. We do not promise a reply time.

If we publish a fix, it goes to the same buyer link. The release stamp tells you when the download changed. The release notes, and the supported path to move to the new release, say how to apply it.

Would you rather have someone in the room while you build? That is the Bootcamp. What you pay today counts in full toward a seat.

We already built our own AI tools. Can you work with us?

Yes. Fractional AI Officer services extend our managed services to teams that have already built their own AI tools. We work with your team on what is still missing: controls, connections, testing and day-to-day use.

You can start here without buying The Sprint, The Bootcamp or a Build. This is a separate engagement, scoped around your existing tools. We agree priorities, responsibilities and fees before work starts.

Sprint or Bootcamp — which one am I?

Choose The Sprint to build your firm’s finance and accounting platform at your own pace, using the supplied plan, tested source and guides in your own compatible workspace.

Choose The Bootcamp to learn the method with live instruction. It includes The Sprint. During the course, you build and test one small workflow on test data, prepare a handover a colleague can follow, and plan the next build. Completing your wider platform and approving client use remain later work.

A Sprint purchase gives you a full $2,000 credit toward a Bootcamp seat under the terms of sale. It is single-use and does not expire.

03Client data

Your firm sets the data path and reviews the work.

Where the data goes. What can reach the books. What this means for your duties. And what if you are not on QuickBooks.

The planning defaultQuick Start records no client data to AI. Your finished build must enforce that choice. The local planner sends nothing anywhere.

Does my client data go to OpenAI or Anthropic?

Quick Start records a default of no client data sent to an AI provider. The optional Customize path lets you change that rule. The handoff records your choice, and its checker validates that the plan is complete and consistent.

Your finished build still has to enforce the rule. Before live use, your firm must prove the real data path through its workspace, providers and deployment. Only give a coding workspace data that your firm has approved for that tool and its settings.

The local planner itself sends nothing anywhere. It runs in your browser from a file on your machine, without an account or network calls. If you later share the exported plan with an AI workspace, that is a separate step governed by that tool’s data handling.

Can it post something wrong to a client’s books?

Yes. Approval controls do not establish accounting correctness. Your firm remains responsible for the figures and the judgement behind them.

The supplied controls require a named person to approve a guarded write. By default, the preparer cannot approve their own work. A service account cannot approve. Approval is tied to the exact payload: the worked example shows that approval of a $400 reclass does not authorize a $40,000 one.

The package does not include a certified live connector. Its tests prove the controls that ship, not your full client build. Before a real write, your finished integration must route every write through those controls and prove there is no second path.

The terms of sale require a qualified person at your firm to review and approve every output before it is posted, sent, filed or relied on.

What about §7216? And my duties to clients?

Those duties are yours. They do not move. That includes keeping client data private. We are not your lawyer, and this is not legal advice.

The handoff gives you a written record of the rules you chose. Who may approve what. Where client data may be handled. What the finished software may do. The package includes tested control foundations. But the finished build still has to put those rules in place. And its go-live evidence has to show they hold in the real provider and the real deployment.

Is your real question which AI tools already touch client work, and what proof you hold for each one? That is what the AI Register is for. Free, private, and about ninety seconds.

What if we’re not on QuickBooks?

The package includes a small QuickBooks Online reference adapter. It is not a turnkey or certified live connection. Selecting QBO in the planner does not make it one.

For Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct or another provider, your firm and coding workspace build and validate the integration you choose, using the provider-independent interfaces. That work is part of your build; it is not an included Vesper implementation service.

The package includes provider setup guidance covering credentials, scopes, expiry and test companies. Prove the connection on test data, then validate and approve the full workflow before allowing access to real books.

04The licence and the money

What you own. What you pay to run.

The Build has its own agreement. The Sprint licence is set out in the terms of sale.

Quoted, not listedThe build and the monthly run have no list price. Both are quoted for your firm.

Do I really own it?

The Build is an asset purchase. The system we build for your firm is yours on payment in full. Vesper retains its pre-existing methods and components; your build agreement sets out those rights.

Your firm gets a perpetual licence to the supplied Sprint source, subject to the refund and termination provisions in the Terms of Sale. One firm, no per-seat charge and no renewal. You can read, run and change the code, including for work you do for your clients. Vesper keeps copyright in the original source. You own your additions, data and outputs. You cannot resell or redistribute the original package; the terms of sale set out the licence.

AI usage, workspace subscriptions and hosting are running costs. Any managed service or additional support you choose is separate from buying the asset. Stopping an optional service does not take away your ownership or your Sprint licence.

Is the Build CapEx or OpEx?

Your firm owns the Build when it is paid for. Under US GAAP, software costs that qualify are recorded as an asset. They are then expensed over the asset’s useful life. Ownership alone does not make the whole bill CapEx.

Fees for a software service subscription are generally OpEx as you use the service. Hosting, AI use and routine support are running costs, too. Training and routine upkeep are usually expensed.

Setup costs and new features need a separate review. Some may qualify for capitalization, including some costs to set up rented software. Our monthly Plus plan includes new feature work; do not treat the whole fee as routine support.

Your accountant should assess each part under your firm’s reporting rules. Tax treatment may differ. See FASB’s guidance on software and cloud service costs.

Can I use it on client work?

Yes. The licence allows your firm to run the finished software for its own clients and give them the results. That permission is separate from readiness: your firm must finish, validate and approve the workflow, provider connections, data rules and deployment before client use. You may install the finished system on a client’s own servers where your firm runs it for them.

The licence covers one firm and everyone in it, with no per-seat fee. It does not permit resale or redistribution of the original package. Your client receives the results and service, not a right to redistribute the software. The terms of sale set out the licence.

What happens when the models change?

The supplied source defines a model interface that does not depend on one provider. But the real OpenAI and Anthropic adapters do not ship. You can change provider, because you control the source. A new adapter must still be built and tested. Then you review what changed. The cost, the data, and the limits on live use.

The package has a guide to provider setup, keys, and token policy. If we publish a fix, it stays at the buyer link. A fix to the documents is just that. It does not quietly change a deployment you have built.

Can I get a refund on the Sprint?

Yes. Seven days, on request, no reason needed. Email owen@byram-advisory.com and it is done. The licence ends. You delete your copies. No one will ask you to justify it.

We ask one thing in return, and the refund does not depend on it. Tell us what you expected and did not get. Right now that is worth more to us than the money.

Can I get a refund on the Bootcamp?

Yes. Work through the first two weeks. By then you should have a repeatable read of test data, tied out to its source, with evidence of what it may not reach. If nothing is running that was not running before, we refund it all. Ask within two weeks of the start of the first session. Email owen@byram-advisory.com. The Terms of Sale explain the refund, prior Sprint credit and included licence.

We ask for a phone call in return, and the refund does not depend on it.

05Where to start

Still deciding? Bring your close.

A free teardown is a 20-minute diagnosis for accounting and CAS firm owners, typically with 30–80 recurring clients and a delivery team. We walk one typical close, name the repeated work, and say where a build would not help. If you want a one-page map, we send it within 48 hours. You keep it with no purchase required. A separate 30-minute map review is optional.

No access, no passwords, nothing installed. We talk through one typical client close.
